New Book Insights. Kentucky Derby. Launch Strategy.

Published 14 days ago • 2 min read

Greetings, friends!

We are enjoying a few days at home in Coeur 'd Alene where the mornings have been crisp and the flowering trees are blooming. We will be heading to the Columbia and Snake Rivers next week. Cruise guests always ask us which is our favorite itinerary. While we could never really pick a favorite, the Columbia and Snake Rivers hover near the top of the list. The diversity and beauty of the scenery, the history stories (Lewis & Clark!!), and the proximity to home make this route a special one for us. Plus, we were married in the Columbia River Gorge nearly 15 years ago, so it holds a warm personal connection for us. Going back to work is truly a joy!

Now, for some exciting news about the launch next Saturday of a new book in our History Highlights series...

We are excited about the launch next Saturday of the 14th book in our History Highlights Series! Plan to get your copy of "Invaded: Alaska in World War II" to explore the dramatic events that significantly impacted the participants, the region, the nation, and the world.

We will send you a link in next week's newsletter offering you a special $2 discount off the regular price. Get an eBook download for just $.99 or a nice paperback edition for only $5.99.

Why May 11? Because on that date in 1943, United States forces stormed ashore on the island of Attu in Alaska's chain of Aleutian Islands. The Japanese had held two islands for almost a year since their June 1942 invasion and occupation of Attu and nearby Kiska Island. The Battle of Attu lasted for 18 days. But more about that later...

THOUGHTS FROM THE AUTHOR

I have written a brief "Thoughts from the Author" series of summaries of the book in general, and then one for each of the book's chapters and themes. To enjoy these brief previews, CLICK HERE.

Please share with your friends, family, and social media. Our efforts to share these stories are magnified by your cherished support. Thank you!

150th KENTUCKY DERBY - Guest Article

For some other fun - Happy Kentucky Derby Day! Today at 7:05 Eastern will be the the 150th Kentucky Derby. My friend David Kirk wrote an article as research support to encourage me to write an article about the historic horse race. I didn't think I could do much better, so I convinced David to let me share his article. To read it, unlocked today on our Member Supporter website, CLICK HERE.

BEHIND THE CURTAIN

Get $2 discount if you'll review the book

I've been taking an online course about launching a book on Amazon.com. If we get more than 50 reviews in the first two weeks after launch, the book gets offered more frequently as a suggestion to targeted shoppers. This can help more people discover our series.

In exchange for a $2 discount off your eBook or paperback, would you read and review the book?

Staggered Ordering

One more insider strategy you could easily help us with... Instead of one big launch sales day, Amazon ranking evaluations prefer a longer, steady stream of book purchases. So, if you're not in a hurry to order the book...

Order your book on the next date that matches the number of your birthdate. Born on the 27th? Buy yours on the 27th. Born on the third? Wait and buy yours that day. But don't forget! Think of it as a small, but valuable monthly birthday gift.

You are going to love the book. The story is fascinating. Watch for launch links next Saturday. Thank you for your support!

We send you all our best,

Bill and Laura

Hello, everyone! We are wrapping up our time on the mighty Mississippi River. It has been a wonderful two months of cruising as we've bounced between the lower Mississippi and the east coast. We've met so many terrific people and reconnected with friends. Now it's time for a break to visit family and home for a couple of weeks before heading to cruises along the Columbia and Snake Rivers. As we depart this region, we thought we would share offerings this weekend that are connected to the...

American Melody in Natchez. Photo by JoAnn Funk Hello, friends! We are having a marvelous time on the Lower Mississippi River. What a gorgeous springtime here! The flowers are blooming and the weather has been warm. We are starting an Eagle Society cruise today. These special theme cruises celebrate our treasured repeat guests (or "frequent floaters" as we fondly call them) and we will be hosting for the week, adding extra entertainment and enrichment. We are looking forward to reconnecting...
