Monumental events in 1865, plus a fascinating FREE video feature

Published 20 days ago • 1 min read

Hello, friends! We are on our next adventure and sending this to you from the American Melody, back on the Mighty Mississippi. We hope you are doing well, wherever you are in the world. Drop us a note by replying to this email if you're so inclined. We would love to hear from you.

Last week we shared with you a great Civil War story and a free download of our "Civil War Anaconda Plan" eBook. In this newsletter, we highlight two anniversaries of monumental historical events in 1865. On April 9, Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant, signaling the final days of the Civil War. Just five days later, on April 14, President Lincoln was assassinated. These events dramatically impacted the end of the war and the efforts toward peace and reconstruction.

"The Pathway to Civil War" - This week's other free offering takes us to the beginning of the war. In this 28-minute History Highlights online multimedia presentation, Bill discusses and summarizes a sampling of the intricate events that led up to the Civil War. Our country's history is complicated, but it is so vital that we strive to understand it. We would be honored if you shared this video with others. It is available for free for a limited time.

Hello, everyone! We are wrapping up our time on the mighty Mississippi River. It has been a wonderful two months of cruising as we've bounced between the lower Mississippi and the east coast. We've met so many terrific people and reconnected with friends. Now it's time for a break to visit family and home for a couple of weeks before heading to cruises along the Columbia and Snake Rivers. As we depart this region, we thought we would share offerings this weekend that are connected to the...

American Melody in Natchez. Photo by JoAnn Funk Hello, friends! We are having a marvelous time on the Lower Mississippi River. What a gorgeous springtime here! The flowers are blooming and the weather has been warm. We are starting an Eagle Society cruise today. These special theme cruises celebrate our treasured repeat guests (or "frequent floaters" as we fondly call them) and we will be hosting for the week, adding extra entertainment and enrichment. We are looking forward to reconnecting...

Hello! Happy April! Ahh, Spring! We are finishing up our time on the Historic South cruises. Next, we're off to the Lower Mississippi River. How lucky we are to get to explore so many interesting places in America! One of those fascinating places is historic Beaufort, SC. When we were docked there the other day, we got a personal tour from a guest that we had met on a cruise several years ago who lives in the area. Such a treat! Thanks so much, Joe Roney, for the history stories and for...
