Hello! Happy April! Ahh, Spring! We are finishing up our time on the Historic South cruises. Next, we're off to the Lower Mississippi River. How lucky we are to get to explore so many interesting places in America! One of those fascinating places is historic Beaufort, SC. When we were docked there the other day, we got a personal tour from a guest that we had met on a cruise several years ago who lives in the area. Such a treat! Thanks so much, Joe Roney, for the history stories and for showing us around this gorgeous town. One of those stories was about a fascinating historical figure from Beaufort and coincidentally, yesterday (April 5) was his birthdate...

On April 5, 1839, in the heart of Beaufort, South Carolina, a remarkable person was born into slavery. Robert Smalls endured tremendous hardships but emerged as a Civil War hero and five-term U.S. Congressman. He would become a symbol of resilience, courage, and leadership, leaving an indelible mark on history. Yesterday, we shared with our Patreon Member Supporters more of his amazing story which includes a daring act of bravery that eventually led to his freedom and a lifelong pursuit of justice.
